How do you remove the metal piece behind a view mirror of a 96 lumina?

I have to clean it first before I can glue it back.

  1. Tell you right now those are a pain in the a**. All mirrors are the same and I have done a few in my time as a mechanic. First off there is a spring like strip of metal behind it that is forcing it against the guide on the mirror assy. You need to push that thin strip away from the metal and use a s***w driver to slide it out the top. Its going to take some time and effort because it is meant to stay on. Also they do make a glue that sets in about fifteen minutes and is meant to install the mirror almost instantly. I used it recently on my own car and was myself surprised when it said after a few minutes to re-install the mirror. Most of the glues I used years ago had to set overnight to work properly. You can buy it at Kragen, Autozone, Pep Boys, or any place like that. Good Luck
