  1. sounds like an old Honeywell thermostat. Remove the cover, it just pops right off. There are two silver wood screws inside. Remove those, remove assembly, remove wall paper, replace assembly, replace screws, replace cover. The wiring inside is very thin don't break it, but it is also very low voltage, like 12 watts,  so it can't hurt you either.

  2. You will see a seperation between the front dial and the back of the unit. Pull on the front part and the clips will release it. Then you need to remove the wires. mark where they came from. Then remove the screws that hold the base to the wall and don't let the wires slide inside the wall.

  3. Remove outer ring by pulling off and you will see three screws.

Unscrew them and the thermostat will come off the base.

The screws should stay in the thermostat.

The base then can be removed if needed but make sure it's level before reinstalling the thermostat or it will not be accurate.

  4. Lid prys off and there are 2 screws that hold it to the wall

  5. Just remove the outside cover. No need to use a s***w driver.  Wallpaper over the base, and cut around it.
