Question:

How do you remove the perfume of fabric softener or dryer sheets from clothes?

I've recently bought some nice clothing items on eBay. The only trouble is that some of them have been laundered with fabric softener and/or dryer sheets, and they smell really strongly of that perfume. I don't want my clothes to smell like anything besides clean clothes, and those perfumes actually make me kind of sick. Repeated washings don't seem to remove the smell. Does anyone know a trick to remove fabric softener perfume from laundered clothes?

Many thanks!

  1. Add a cup of white vinegar in the final rinse...

  2. Yup - they both mentioned it - Vinegar - it's one of the best deodorizers out there.

  3. Try washing as usual and use some white vinegar to help neutralise the smell as a rinse aid

Hang in the fresh air and sunshine to dry.

This may help tho one garment I bought I could not get the smell out either.

Other than that perhaps try having something dry-cleaned to see if that will work

Other than this this is a good website with lots of good ideas that may appeal to you

  4. Try washing them with baking soda in the wash cycle and vinegar in the rinse cycle.
