How do you remove the stereo from a 2006 Ford Explorer?

Trying to remove the factory installed system and put in an after market but cannot seem to fully get faceplate off.

  1. on the newer ones there r no holes on the side.  u have to remove the trim piece around the stereo.  its attached to the ac vents.  behind the trim piece r 2 screws u need to remove to get the stereo out


  2. Is there 4 holes in it, one at each corner ? each explorer, ranger, or bronco we have had, all need special tools to get them out. They look like large plain dresser handles, you slide them in the holes and squeeze inward and then it pulls right out. They are not too expensive and you should be able to get them at your local vip, pep boys, or other type car place.  

  3. there is a tool you can use to remove it is like a U shaped and there are two of them and you can get it from most auto part stores

  4. The are 4 holes (2 on each side) on the Stereo, you can go buy a special tool to insert (which will release the stereo from its mounts), or use a wire clothes hanger.
