  1. Remove the SD card from the camera and slide the little switch forward or to unlock ... toward the end that goes into the camera first.  That should solve the problem. You may have to repeat this several times, but if you leave the batteries out for at least one minute the camera will reset or restore to the original settings when you restart the camera.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may have a full charge, but will be viewed by the camera as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but with extending the lens, focus, optical zoom, and flash charging in the capture mode; it is like starting a car.  With bad contacts the camera can do strange things like shutting off with the lens out.

  2. what may have happened is that the memory protection tab on the card either was pushed up or broken off. If it's the first, just push the tab down. If its broken, I am afraid you might be out of luck, though I have heard there are ways to fix it. Its happened to two of my SD cards and every time I had to buy a new one. Good luck and let me know what happens
