Acacia tree with a slender trunk has bent right over in the wind and broken half way through the trunk. The tree is still living and we have supported it upright but is that enough?

  1. call a tree surgeon. I'm pretty sure you just strap it up!

  2. yeah it should be

  3. if it is supported thats fine, but believe it or not put a bandage tightly around the break,it will work!!!!.

  4. yeah i guess, as long as the whole tree is still attached in natuarlly

  5. That might be enough if the pieces of tree are where they were before and they are spliced together (they will fuse together)

You could also use rooting powder (root auxins) to make a cutting grow e.g. a branch and have a clone of the "parent plant" and have two trees

  6. It'll always be weakened, and may become diseased. I'd seek professional advice on whether pollarding might be successful.

  7. Buy a $12 ax at Home Depot, and take care of business.

  8. Not a hope.

If it is as bad as you say - "broken half way through the trunk" - then it is a massive access point for disease and weather to eat away at the tree, apart from having steadiness trouble.

Get a qualified reputable local tree surgeon to look at it and they will tell you for sure.

  9. If you say that it has broken in half than it's most likely going to die. Support it like you have and hope for the best; stranger things have happened.

  10. My neighbor took one and strapped a strong back(vertical 2x4 brace) to it for a good year so it had time to send scare tissue to the wounded area and strengthen itself.........It's now 5 years older and looks new..........Just like putting a leg brace on.........clamp it and brace it..........don't allow the truck to move except as one unit..............all the best
