  1. wood putty

  2. You can get the wood filler pencils at Home Depot.

They come in different colors to match your wood.

  3. Do what professionals do.When resanding the hardwood gather the dust, don't throw it out just yet.Mix it with the varnish and stain that you plan to use.Use a puddy knife and fill all the holes, cracks uneven surfaces with this mixture.Leave overnight.Sand those areas making sure it blends in the existing surface.Stain, seal and varnish. It will be like a mirror and you will hardly notice where the holes were.Wood puddy may be a different colour than the floor after staining and you will see where all the holes were.It is faster way but amateurish. The choice is yours of course.

  4. I'd recommend getting two or three of the wax fill crayons.  Blend them together to match the color in the micro neighborhood.  Buff with a piece of paper grocery bag to even out.

Most any store will have the ubiquitous Minwax pencils.   If you need more colors, look for a touch up place such as http://woodfinishersdepot.com/touch-up-p... or installer's putty in the jar
