  1. I did it on my 2001 9-5 last year and it's really quite simple. The badge is held on by a strong adhesive two-sided foam tape. I've heard of people using a hair drier on it for a little while to loosen up the adhesive, but I didn't try it and I'm not sure how good that is for your paint. Anyway, I used a very small flat head s***w driver to pry underneath it. I used a napkin under the s***w driver so I didn't scratch my paint. Between prying with the screwdriver and some dental floss I got the old badge off. I then scraped away the remains of the foam tape CAREFULLY with a razor blade and my finger nails. I used WD-40 to dissolve the adhesive further. You have to really soak it on there and let it sit for a bit and it takes a few tries to get it all off. Then use some rubbing alcohol to clean up the WD-40. The Saab badge you buy will have the foam tape on the back already, and two pins sticking out the back which stick into holes in the hood to line it up perfectly. Put it in place and put some pressure on it for a good 30 seconds and step back and enjoy you're new badge! Good luck!

To Tashfeen: It's possible it's different on the 9-3 but the 9-5's front emblem definitely had adhesive gunk on it.

  2. In addition to SAABER89.

Use pure benzene to clean the foam adhesive tape residues. No need to scrape with fingers or blade or to use WD-40. The procedure described is correct for the rear tailgate emblem.

The Bonnet/hood emblem goes straight into the plastic sleeves provided on the body and the 2 pins on the emblem are pushed straight in. No adhesive tapes for the hood emblem. However, the removal method is the same. Pry under the emblem with a steel spatula. Protect the paint work by putting masking tape around the emblem area.

    Edit

Dear Saaber89, I took the information directly from the SAAB WIS and for these older model 9-3's no adhesive tape for the front bonnet emblem. The tape is there for the rear emblem. Cheers. No hard feelings mate.
