  1. Most of the briggs and strattons have a primer ball that simply has a pl;astic clip in spreader built onto the bulb that simply snap in place..take the old bulb out..doesnt matter if you tear the bulb on the old one..and you will see this plastic clip that you simply squeeze with pliars and they pop right out..some may have a simple metal retainer ring that again you squeeze with pliars and they pop right out..the new one pops right in..here is a picture of the bulb kits..At the bottom here it shows the 2 type bulbs..notice the simple plastic clips they come with...Make sure that the bulb you have is the one with or without the hole in the end..

  2. try bosch chemical

  3. Something similar happened to me bec I encountered problems and set aside gas engine equipment.  PCBEACHR is right but one mechanic had me buy primer bulb and retainer ring, then after he replaced it would start but not run continuously as mechanic kept spraying starter fluid and told me carburetor needed to be flusher.  Please note that in the process of DIY flush job, yes I removed all the dirt & debris by accidentally damaged the float needle so after reassembly, every time I pulled cord, gas would trickle out through air filter.

Bottomline I ended up taking to gas engine mechanic I found on craiglist and he rebuild entire carburetor and now it runs GREAT!

    Hope the Above Info Helps!
