How do you replace upper and lower ball joints on a 1994 ford f150 4x4

  1. What a fun job to do!

    Jack it up and place on jack stands

    Remove wheels

    remove brake calipers

    remove hubs (there may be a larce C clip behind the hub to pull out the bearings. If so you will need a pick tool to get it out)

    Remove the wheel bearings (you can buy a wheel bearing socket to remove them)

    pull the axles

    remove the ball joint crown nuts

    remove the spindles

    get a ball joint press (you can rent them at auto parts stores)

    Press out the ball joints

    Press in the new ball joints (be sure to look and see which one goes in first because the bj press will only work in one direction and I don't remember what one you have to press in first without looking at the axle)

    Reinstall everything in reverse order.

    If it is your 1st time, plan on spending all day doing it.
