How do you report a dangerous driver?

I was driving last night on the freeway through a mountainous area. Suddenly a huge semi was bearing down on me at 80 mph and no more than 5 ft behind my vehicle. I let him pass, and saw him do the same to countless other vehicles. On the next uphill, his speed dropped to 10 m below the legal limit so I passed again. On the downhill he was tailing me again. I put distance between us but ten minutes later he passed and cut me off. I slowed down to put some distance that way, but saw him come extreemly close to causing fatal accidents countless times. Would there have been a number to call to report such reckless behavior, before it turned into something much worse?

  1. CALL 911.

GET THE TRUCK NUMBER AND LICENSE PLATE.

    REMEMBER THE TIME OF DAY.

IF YOU HAVE THE TIME FOLLOW AT A SAFE DISTANCE UNTIL THE POLICE GET THERE.

THE POLICE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT.

  2. If it's a commercial truck, the best thing to do is to call the company that is running it and tell them the situation, location and license plate number.  They will handle it a lot better than police.  Police don't have the resources to look into every such complaint, and they can't legally pull someone over unless they actually see the problem (i.e., they can't pull someone over because a member of the public tells them to).  The company will handle it better.

  3. 911--If you call it from a cell phone it usual goes straight to highway patrol and they will be more than happy to take care of it.

  4. See folks? Sometimes there really is a need to use a cell phone while driving.

Where are all those people who blame cell phones for everything, and say you should never use them behind the wheel for any reason? In fact, they want them banned outright. I wonder why they're not answering this question.

  5. 911

  6. I had a similar event happen to me several years ago involving an Airporter Bus. He was riding my bumper at 80MPH and then cut off another driver to pass me. I called the State Patrol and gave them the company name , time, where the event happened and details of the event. They were able to contact the company and the driver was actually fired about a month later because several people called in and reported him. Think of all the details and make the call. You may save someone's life.

  7. Get any identifying name and number from the cab of the semi and the license plate number and usually there is a number on the trailor, so get it too, then call the nearest highway patrol or county police, etc..  Get any other identifying items such as the color of the cab and what you can see of the driver so the police can be sure of who they're after.  There may be much better ways to report, but since I have no experience with reporting semis on "freeways" (Interstate or not?  You didn't identify which.), that's just the best I could think of and would do if I were in your situation.  God Bless you.

  8. there's usually a number on the back of their trucks that says ,,hows my driving,, now days ,get that number and the number of his truck which will be above it,and call and report him, they will do something about it,that's the best thing to do,good luck, and be careful.
