How do you request a credit card upgrade from your bank?

Question

I applied for a World MasterCard at my bank and was approved for just a regular MasterCard; however, the agreement says that based on payment history, my account could be considered for an "upgrade" to the World MasterCard.

Does anyone know how to go about doing this? Do you have to reapply altogether?

(If anyone knows the answer for the equivalent situation with Visa/Visa Signature, I'd appreciate that just the same.)

all mine were upgraded after I made timely payments and paid A little more than the minimum payments.  It happened automatically.
