How do you reset a password?

My e-mail that i have had for years says my password is invalid.

it would have been better if you would have explained your mail account provider like yahoo google or something else. Anyways you can always go to forgot password and reply to the default questions you left while creating the account. Or they can email the password to your alternative account.

If both above are not the case then you can send an email to the support id of the account and then you can get hold of it (after authenticating yourself).

Well, first of make sure you have that second e-mail address in case of something like this. Then, see if you can find the little forgot my password thing, click it and you should be able to reset it or get the current password. If that doesn't work, try contacting Yahoo.
