  1. To do a pro job of routing for a Floyd requires a router with template guides or a tracing bit (I assume you have this already) and templates either homemade or purchased. You could trace the cavity shapes from an existing instrument to base your template on. Then you need to locate where the bridge will be on  the body when the string contact point on the high "E" saddle, (1/16 from fully forward) is at the scale length from the nut (scale length is twice the distance from the nut to the middle of the twelfth fret). Then position the smaller through route template and route so that the sustain block clears the cavity in all desired positions Be sure you account for the clearance needed to up bend and dive. Finally you can route the spring cavity based on the center line and distance from the front route to the body's tail edge. While you could try to follow these directions, I would actually recommend that you check out Stewart MacDonald at stewmac.com and check out their Floyd rose tremolo routing templates. For less than $20.00 you get both templates ready made, plus better instructions than I can give you in a paragraph.
