I have sports try-outs tomorrow and I am suppose to run a mile in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds. My current time is around 8 minutes. What's the best thing to do while running a mile? Start off fast or start off slow and run faster towards the end?

  1. If its only 1 mile, you need to pick up speed quickly and be able to hold it the entire time. Do proper breathing techniques or you will wear yourself out. Its mainly in your head what you can and cant do. If someone was chasing you with a knife trying to kill you for that entire mile, im sure you could make it happen.

  2. Run even splits and at the end last 200-300 meters give it everything you got. Keep in mind the faster you finish the sooner the pain ends. At the halfway be at 3:45. I'm sure you will hit your time. You will be surprised what you can do if you run with the right attitude. Just run with toughness and meaness like your a beast. No smiles or laughing, just fierceness. Even if the race is just for fun be mean and monstrous for that 7:30 of running. Good Luck.

  3. Keep the same pace throughout and sprint in the end.

  4. I can run it in less than 6min 30sec. I usually just keep a steady pace then on the last lap pick up the pace for a strong finish but the way you run it doesn't necessary mean you'll have a faster time. So, truthfully I really don't know unless you've been practicing before to improve your time.

  5. it depends on how you pace yourself. if you can run fast the whole mile and still have enough power to sprint at the end, then you should do that and practice a lot on it. if you run at a slow steady pace, that's ok too. just make sure enough have enough power to sprint at the end. So all you have to do is work on keeping a steady pace the whole race and then give it all you got at the end.

    ~good luck~

  6. For me, start off slow NEVER worked for me and I've tried it several times. I usually start off moderately fast, and towards the end I put my full energy  in finishing half of the last lap. Good Luck!

  7. PUSH YOURSELF HARDER THAN YOU EVER HAVE! DON"T GIVE UP!

  8. you fricken run like a chiken without your head

  9. start slow and increase your speed gradually on the last 1/4 mile. also really get your arms into it and keep your head up.

  10. definately run slower at first and then you run fast once you see the finish line. good luck with your sports try-outs.

  11. hahahahaha you run an 8 minuet mile we have to run it for soccer in under 6 min f****s

  12. Start slow and speed up, make sure you warmed up properly. Run with a larger stride and pace yourself. FINISH WITH A SPRINT. Good luck!

  13. Try to keep your strides long, and keep it consistent, for as long as you can. Not sprinting, but keep it fast. If you're in good condition, you should be able to put on a sprint for the last 200-300 meters.
