  1. i took wood shop last year. and the way you sand so that you dont see marks is to sand with the grain not against it. so if the grain is running straight across then you sand straight across. hopefully that helps

  2. A finer grit sand paper will help take those marks out.  The higher the number the finer the grit and be sure to sand with the grain of the wood, not across it.

  3. you need finishing sandpaper it's like the softest side of a fingernail file and you need to sand only in the direction the grain of the wood goes, not against the grain.

  4. Use a 400 grit or finer for final sanding.

You may now need to use a coarser paper (150 -200) and then use the 400.

Not only 'with the grain' as has been suggested, but perpendicular to your fingers, so your hand is moving side to side, not up and down; this prevents finger impressions. Better yet, use a sanding block or an orbital sander.

  5. yep.. you need to keep on sanding. i'm not sure if you need a finer grain or what, but sanding it more will get the marks out.

  6. Use a fine sandpaper and sand in the direction of the grain. If you used a cross-grain stroke with a very coarse paper, you may have done permanent damage. If a fine paper won't remove it, try one that's slightly coarser until the wood is smooth. Use a gentle touch without too much pressure.

  7. Get a sand paper with finer grit so it doesn't leave marks.  You want one that feels almost smooth.

  8. Sounds like your sandpaper was too coarse.  You'll have to go back and do it again with finer paper.

Generally, you start with coarser paper and finish with finer paper - depending on the grain, you can go down as low as 400 grit before you are ready to stain.

Remember to sand with the grain, not across it.

  9. this is how.

  10. now use a finer grit sand paper
