I'm only familiar with .zip files. I'm confused & scared about how to use .rar files.

  1. Go to the popular shareware sites like versiontracker.com , Tucows.com, or PCWorld and search for RAR - that'll get you lots of options like WinRAR

  2. Yes, you need a software for extracting such as this:

As far as being scared, any kinds of files being downloaded off the internet can have virus (not just .rar files) so if you are not sure if its safe, don't download it to begin with.

  3. .rar extensions, are basically, as similar as .zip files.

except they have 3 different letters are the .

To extract .rar files you need the RAR file extractor thingy (i believe its made by windows, so, well you know windows)

SO basicaally you just need to download the .rar file extractor and you will be able to extract them as easily as you did with .zip files.

Click on this link to go to google and then click on the link appropriate to download winrar

  4. You need WinRAR which is what opens and makes .rar files.

It is somewhat similar to winzip but works better.

You can download old versions here under utilities.
