imovie saves your work automatically.

You can access the events or projects in your movies folder:

/Users/admin/Movies

There should be two folders in there for iMovie, iMovie Events, and iMovie projects. The event is in .mov format.

Forgot to add...

You can export the movie from the menu item "Share" - or just hit cmd+E (apple+E)
