How do you say AMALIE (Danish) in English?

I just got an exchange student from Denmark. It is driving me crazy but I, for some reason can not say her name the right way and it is sooooo frustrating for her and for me. I really need help before she asks to go back home! I hope so much that someone has some helpful hints for me. It is nothing like I thought it would be.

The English version of Amalie is Amelia, which was a name which became popular in England under the Hanoverian Kings. Amal is a Germanic name with the meaning of work. There are various Latinised forms of it of which Amalie is one.
