How do you say in Brazilian Portuguese...?

Unfortunately, the online translators do not translate the word, "your" very well. Instead of being based on "you"... it changes to variation of "his" and so on.

Can someone translate these examples for me? I'm trying to learn some Brazilian Portuguese.

I love your smile. You are beautiful. (to a woman)

I love your smile. You are handsome. (to a man)

Your face is beautiful.

Also, what is the definition of "lindo" or "linda?"

What does "fui" mean?

What does "ai" mean?

What does "gato" mean? (does it mean "guy" ??)

Does "gata" exist? Or, is it something else?

lindo = bonito... but lindo SOUNDS  "very beautiful". But there's no difference.

Fui is a very informal slang for bye, "i'm going away" ....fui is the past of to go

gato means male cat, that is metapho.. "VocÊ é um gato'="You are handsome"

gata means the same, but it's for woman

OK, let me try to explain it in a easy way. Portuguese can be tricky. the thing is the possessive pronoun for "your" can be "teu (male); tua (female)" if you are using the personal pronoun "tu" or "seu (male); sua (female)" if you are using the pronoun "voce" which we call a treatment pronoun. the truth is most Brazilians don't know the difference between the two forms and take them for synonyms. Also "seu, sua" happens to be used for both "voce - your (treatment pronoun)" and "ele - his". that is why you think your translator is mistranslating but it is, in fact correct!

formal: i love your smile. you are beautiful (to a woman)

             adoro seu sorriso. voce e linda.

             I love your smile. You are handsome. (to a man)

             adoro seu sorriso. voce e lindo.

             Your face is beautiful.

             voce tem um rosto muito bonito. (you have a beautiful face)

informal - slang: i love your smile. you are beautiful (to a woman)

             seu sorriso é tudo de bom. voce é muito gata.

             I love your smile. You are handsome. (to a man)

             seu sorriso é tudo de bom. voce é muito gato.

            

definitions:

lindo and linda means beautiful (male and female), same as bonito but we tend to use in different situations - hard to explain, that comes naturally with time.

"fui" is a slang for "so long" meaning instead of saying bye, once can say "fui". translation is " i went"

"ai" is an interjection for "ouch" in English.

"aí" with and accute accent means "there"

"gato" is a male cat but colloquially we say a "gato" is a very handsome man.

"gata" is a female cat; also a very beautiful woman is a "gata.".

Plural- Vocês são lindos.

Your face is beautiful (both) -Seu rosto é lindo.

Lindo- When a man is handsome or an amimal or object on masculine.

Linda- when a woman/girl is pretty /beautiful or an animal or on feminine.  

In Portuguese always when a word finishes with letter O It is masculine. And when it finishes with A it is feminine.

For Example:

A praia é linda. (The beach is beautiful)

Praia (beach) finishes with A, so you must use lindA no lindo.

O passarinho é azul. (The bird is blue)

Passarinho finishes with O so you must use lindO.  

Fui is past (went).

Gato is cat. But it is an expression for someone very beautiful.

Ele é um gato (men)  

He is a cat but we mean he is beautiful.

your = seu (can also be translated as "his" or "hers")

I love your smile = eu amo seu sorriso

You are beautiful = você é bonita (woman) or bonito (man)

Your face is beautiful = seu rosto é bonito.

Lindo (for male) and linda (female) =  could be translated as beautiful, but I think is on "degree"  higher. If you say someone is "lindo(a)", you mean he or she is more than "bonito(a)".

Fui = slang. Means "I'm outta here", "I'm gone"

ai = ouch (although aí = there, and also " e aí?" = slang - "what´s up ?")

gato = male cat, also slang for handsome (or hot)

gata = female cat, also slang for pretty girl (or hot)
