    EDIT: The only thing I can add is that a very small island (i.e., too small for any humans to live there) is called un îlot. http://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%AElot

    EDIT 2: LARRY HUSSEIN- "Isle" *was* the French word for island- many years ago. These days it's "île".
