How do you say "treat" (a food treat) in French?

  1. Comme quoi, Jenny M, tu as tord d'employer des mots qui peuvent prêter à confusion.


  2. Jenny M : it's not totally right for "friandises" : it's just that we the French, because of halloween "trick or treat", we believe that "treat" means "friandises" because "treat" is mainly candies, but literally treat means "a present" = un "cadeau" in French.

    My English dictionary says, for "treat": something, as food or entertainment, generously paid for by someone else", so "treat" is not necessarily "candies".

    Well, as the question says "food treat", I suppose then that it can refer to "candies", and yes in that case we can say "une friandise", literally in English a "titbit" or "delicacy", hence "candy".

    Anyway a thumb up for you, you deserve it  ;-)
