Question:

How do you sell a motorcycle to a private party

I have a motorcycle that I still owe money on that I am trying to sell. How do I go about doing this because obviously I do not have a title to hand them at the purchase. Does the buyer just have to trust that once I pay the loan off and receive the title that I will get it to them or is there another way to go about it?

  1. Have the buyer get a certified bank check for the amount you owe on the bike and have them fill it out in the name of the company you owe the money to. When you send the payment to them send a letter saying you have sold the bike to someone else and instruct them that you would like to have the title sent to them.

I have done this twice, once they sent the title to me even though I told them to send it to the other person and the second time they sent it to the buyer. Once the title arrives you will still need to sign it as your name will be listed on it as the owner.
