I have something for sale on craigslist and I want to send my posting to someone who is interested in it. I am a novice so please give me a detailed way of doing this. Thanks

  1. Copy the URL and then paste it into an email, and send to anyone you please. To copy, simply highlight the URL in the address box, right click and select Copy. The URL is saved to your Clipboard or Clipbook. You cannot see this, as it is stored in memory so it seems invisible. But, it is still there. If you have Microsoft Office installed, you may see a Clipboard icon down in your notification area after a copy procedure is performed. If it is set to show in the notification area, which you can configure from within Word or Excel, etc. Anyway, as long as you do not copy anything else it will be ready for pasting until you do perform another copy procedure. Now, you actually have up to ten items in the Clipboard at any one time, but the only one you can paste without actually opening Clipboard is the last one you copied.

Open your email client, prepare a email, and then click in the email body to insert your cursor, (your paste will appear at the cursor placement) and then right click again, and select Paste.

Or, you can click Ctrl+C for Copy, then Ctrl+V to paste. This keyboard shortcut will copy the highlighted item. The second will paste the last copied item.

To view your Clipboard if its icon is not in the notification area, open Word, on the View menu click Clipboard, then when the Clipboard is displayed, at the bottom of the pane, click on Options or Settings, and then select the Show in Notification Area. When Clipboard is displayed in Word (or another Office application) the last ten copied or cut items are listed. Click the little arrow next to each to display a short options menu on actions you can perform.

If you do not have Microsoft Office you can still perform these operations by the utility Clipbook, which is similar to Clipboard.

I wanted to explain how just performing an action allows you to copy and paste things from one application to another when it seems invisible. I remember when I first started it seems just the oddest thing to me!

There are add-ons you can use if you use the Firefox browser. I use CoolIris to open links in a small box, and send that link to anyone by a quick click on the mail icon in the upper bar. It is really neat. Good luck and have a nice day.

  2. If you are pulling the link from the email you got back from Craigslist to let you know the ad has been posted, make sure you are not sending the one that starts with http://post.craigslist.org....  If you send that one, the receiver can alter your ad.
