My parents have been having some trouble with my sister and want her to not be able to use the computer. They are old school and still running windows 98. How do I help them to set up one admin that has a user name and password so only they can get on the computer, instead of being able to type in any user name and hitting ok and it lets you on. Please help!

  1. Windows 98 and other older versions of the home operating systems by Microsoft do not have very much security, including no administrator account.

To lock out other people, you can set a password on boot (won't load Windows without entering the password).  Reboot the machine and when prompted, press the required key (usually Del, F1 or F2).

You can also try to set up a password-locked screen saver.

If neither of these work, there have always been software solutions to locking computers.  It may be hard to find older software though, but you may get lucky.

  2. Cannot be done on Windows 98
