I have a Peavey x*x with EL34 tubes how and to what voltage do I set it to?

  1. EL 34s generally idle at around 50 mA.  I can't tell you the voltage without knowing what cathode resistors are being used.  Here's a safe way.

    Without meters, adjust the bias all the down (cold).  Play as usual, and when warmed up, turn up bias a little at a time until you think it sounds good.  If the tubes are glowing red, you have them biased too high (hot).  It will sound good, but the tubes will only last a few hours.  The idea is to bias for good sound, but not too high to cook the tubes.
