My brother makes the best soups ever. He's unemployed and has come up with the idea of going into business that way but has no idea where to start. Any clues anyone?

  1. go to town hall and ask if such a business is allowed in your town - you would have to spend a few $1000 to get the cart probably and there would be business and sales tax licenses and health inspections to deal with

  2. Blackpool Lass has given you most of the practical steps in setting up the unit.  The other things that you need to consider are insurance and food hygiene.

Get your brother to contact his local Business Link for free advice on starting up in business.  They're very good on the food hygiene requirements.  They can advise him on the types of insurance he should think about.

If your brother's soups are really good, explore the options of packaging them and selling them to deli outlets.  Again, Business Link can advise him on what's involved.

    Good luck!

  3. hiya, i had one for 10yrs,i made a living at of it.i bought a small old caravan.strip it out,put a shelf going all the way round,i put a Small sick in it,i put a small camping cooker, and a gas ring.i made the teas/coffee as people came in. i sold soup,.sausage sandwiches,bacon/egg sandwiches.i even cooked beef burgers.i also made ham/cheese/salad sandwiches.cold drinks.i kept adding to it as the weeks went by.i use to park in a lay by,every day 5 days a week.in winter i made a pot of stew at home, took it to the next morning, warm it up on the cooker.and sold a bowl full of stew with a chunk of french bread.they loved that i charged £1 50 a bowl full.i use to take about £6oo pounds a week.i had no over heads, so after i bought my stock for the week.the rest was mine.you get to know the people, and many always use to stop each week when they were passing.most were work drivers, that had deliveries each week .give it a go its a laugh.and you earn a good wage, if you work it right.
