  1. Offer him a pacifier and hold him until he falls asleep.

  2. He is waay overtired.  Does he take a pacifier?  We sleep trained our 5 month old, so I'm not the biggest fan of soothing them to sleep because they can become dependent on it.. but sometimes you need to if they are that overtired. If I hide behind my son's crib so he doesn't see me and I shush him with rhythmic pattern that calms him down usually.  There is no harm in letting him cry for 10-20 minutes though.   You can try to go back in and soothe him briefly if he's still crying after that amount of time but don't pick him up.  Sleep is a learned skill that they need to master.

  3. but like the first answer, hold him.  he is young still.  he wants to be held. hold him.  there were plenty of nights my daughter slept on my chest as i was on an easy chair.  I slept too.  its not always convienvient, but having a kid isn't...i also got a swing that helped sometimes, but you aren't supposed to leave them in a swing all day, only short periods.

have you tried teething tablets?  they are natural.  a little tylenol? orajel?

  4. Try taking him for a car ride

  5. "everytime we put him down to sleep, he screams and screams"

Try not putting him down then, he's made it clear he wants to be held.

Eventually, when he is ready - he will sleep.

  6. Hold him until he falls asleep. Wait three or four minutes to make sure he's really out and then put him down.

    Poor kid. Poor parents.
