How do you sew a button on a pillow?

  1. If it's the kind of button used for "tufting," you need a special long needle.  The ones I have are 10-12" long and pointed on both ends.

    Thread it, using a heavy thread and push the eye end through the pillow and out the far side.  

    Pull the short end of the thread out of the needle and run it through the button's shank.  Then re-thread the needle's eye and pull it back out the other side.   You will now have a button on one side and both ends of the thread on the other.

    Loop the thread through the second button's shank.  Tie a slip knot and cinch the thread down until you have the degree of tufting that you want.  

    Secure the slip knot with a stopper knot and trim the loose ends of the thread.

  3. take a long piece of string, then thread it through the needle. on the other end tie the two poeces together. place the button on the pillow then stick the needle through one of the holes in the button. stick the needle through the other hole. repet that several times then cut and tie.
