  1. You will need to go to the post office for a large package, most post men don't like to pick them up over a certain size. Just find a box or envelope that fits whatever you are sending, and that is padded appropriately; this can be one you already have, or a new one from a box store. Again, for large items the post office will weight the item and apply the appropriate shipping, however if you have a small enough package to mail from home, you can probably just put a few stamps on and cover. If you want to be sure though, you can always just have the post office weight it for you.

  2. The U.S. post office website has directions on how to package your item-you don't need any special envelopes.  They also have an online rate calculator that will help you get the postage amount if you know how much your item weighs, but you will definitely need to drop it off OR if it's not too big, find the closest drop box or give it to the postman .  You must use stamps, but if you go to the post office you can give the attendant cash and they'll place a stamp with the correct amount on your package.

Take a look at the following carriers:  Go online to UPS, FED EX, and DHL, they have pick-up svc as long as it's not an extremly heavy item.  You'll have to fill in a lot of required information so be ready for that (because you don't have an established account), and at the end you'll have a shipping label to print out and adhere to your package.  Calling them directly is also a good idea, but you need a credit card and make sure the driver is brings the shiping slip w/him.  If you schedule for a pick-up late they'll want you to drop it off in a drop-box or a center near you. Their deadlines are usually 4:30pm or so.  Here are their tel nos.  UPS-(800)742-5877 FEDEX-(800)463-3339 DHL-(800)225-5345.

  3. Yes, you can ship a package from home.

Stamps may not be used on ANY item weighing over 13 ounces (due to security measures).

Go to the USPS website and choose the option called CLICK N SHIP. If you do not have an account, then you need to set one up.

The option will be "create a ship label". It will ask for the mail rate you want (priority, express). Then it will ask for the weight of the package. It will ask for the shipper and destination addresses.

Then, you may print a label and pay for it with credit card.

No special box or envelope needed. But Priority and Express do prefer those specific boxes when possible.

Parcel Post is not available on Click n Ship. First class mail and Parcel Post shipping is available through PayPal.

When you are done, you schedule a pick up. You may do this online. Your item will be picked up by USPS truck.
