  1. In general, or what exactly do u mean? But I will say, for longer shots I aim twoard the top of the ball, it rolls straighter over longer distances.

  2. This is not a straightforward answer.  The way in which you should shoot the cue really depends on situation, because each shot may require slightly different English.  I would suggest 3 things:

1st) Practice a lot.  Spend some time trying different shots from different angles.  Start simple, and then move to more complicated.  Get a sense for how the ball reacts to being hit in different ways.

2nd) If you find yourself at a pool hall where there are some good players - challenge them to a game, and ask for pointers.  Most good players are happy to help a beginner, and would be glad to give you some instructions, especially if you are paying for the game.

3rd) Look for resources on "English" - which is the art of hitting the cue in slightly different positions in order to create spin, angles and redirection.  I have included a good beginner site below.

  3. Make sure your posture is appropriate. Upper body lowered down with weight distributed between both feet. Have the right grip on the stick. Not too tight and not too lose. Then this is when you can shoot the Que ball. Whichever you prefer, open or closed hand, make sure it's comfortable for you. Then align the stick at the middle of the que ball. Don't hit top or bottom or sides until you get your stroke perfected. Do a few practice strokes looking at the middle of que ball and then right before you hit that spot, take your eyes off the que ball and look at the object ball and then just do a slight follow through once you make contact with the que ball. Don't worry about power with your strokes because until you can control that power, the ball will act unwillingly.

  4. First you have to know the difference between precision and accuracy. When I teach pool it is more I'mportant that you learn to execute a shot with precision first then accuracy. I would teach you the basic like closed hand bridge, how to hold the stick properly and how to stroke the stick. Look at it this way when I was a gunners-mate it was more important for me to teach you the basic of shooting a rifle and to execute the basic with precision. When you where coordinated enough to shoot with precision( not hitting the target but they were group together consistently). then all I have to do is adjust the sight and now you executing with precision and are hitting the target with accuracy. Same with pool learn to execute with precision  and then learn to how to hit the balls. Boy this is your lucky day to learn how hit the ball just remember the further the objective ball is away from the pocket the less the angle hit is. When you watch me execute a shot you know im a professional whether I  make the shot of not.

  5. i personal shoot the cue ball by first taking shot of patron.  then i go through stare down at the rake and imagine it bursting about and balls going everywhere.  i then posistion the cue ball either slightly to the right side or straight on depends on the feeling i have at the moment.  i then ajust my grip to the very rear of the cue and get into my stance.  puting the cue on my bridge as i do iti then lock the image in my mind of solid contact and take a few strokes to get a good feel and make sure everything smooth before puting the power to it and going for it all.

thats just for the break. for most other shots the patron is optional and imagine shot i selected going into selected pocket and geting the leave i want
