  1. Practice, Practice, Practice.  Get a comfortable stance that allows you to bend and have your eye lined up as level to the table as you can.  You need to develop a "bridge" with your fingers at the narrow end of the stick...to begin with just use the "vee between your thumb and first finger. Hold the other end of the stick so that you can push it forward 6-8". Before shooting slide it back and forth several times to be sure that your stroke will be straight.  At the beginning try to hit the cue ball in the center until you delelop a smooth stroke.  Be certaing to followthrough the cue ball with your shot and don't raise up until you have followed through the ball.  Shoot the ball only hard enough to make your object ball get there...if you shoot too hard you will "juice" the cueball and cause other problems.  The best thing to do is go hang around a pool hall and watch for a while.  I think if you asked someone who seems to be doing well they will give you a quick lesson free of charge.
