How do you sign in a guest on Gears of War?

I know how to go to versus, and then to player match, but when i press Y on my other controller it comes up with a screen asking me to sign in one of my accounts (all are silver except my main one that I'm using). I click on my main one and it says i need a gold membership and then it logs me into that on my second controller but logs me out on my first controller. What exactly am i doing wrong?

on your list of accounts that pops up when you hit Y, there should be one that says "XBOX Live Guest" Click that and you should be able to go.
