  1. Yeah, that's pretty much simplified.  If you wanted to solve for x, that's a different problem.


  2. This is a quadratic function, so to factor it, you have to set it equal to zero.

    x^2+7x+1=0

    --At this point, use quadratic formula. -b(+/-)[sqrt b^2-4ac] all over 2a

    a=coefficient of x^2

    b=7

    c=1

    Then find your factors and let it be x= something.
