Question:

How do you sing properly using your diaphragm?

People say I have a good voice but I know I'm singing incorrectly, through my nose instead of my diaphragm. But whenever I try I don't hear or feel any difference.

Can someone tell me how to do it properly, please?

Thank you in advance.

  1. Lie down on the floor on your back, place a heavy book on your mid tummy area, then breathe in and out and watch the book go up as you breathe in and out as you breathe out, really push as you breathe out and use your stomach muscles. Then try singing, do a long note and feel it in your stomach area as you hold it. Then try standing up, say "Shhhhhh" loudly and hold it for as long as you can, when you do this feel as if your zipping up from your tummy inside. Keep practising.

  2. Put your hand on your upper stomach and breath into that area of your body. When you sing bring your voice from your head into your throat. Try humming and transitioning the energy from your head to your belly. Use your diaphram to push the sound out. you should feel it with your hand. After practice you'll be able to deferientiate.

Eventually, you will be able to transition to head singing and deep singing depending on what the style of composition is.
