  1. If you have never been up on a slalom/single ski then you should start out on a ski designed for beginners. They will have a wide surface area all the way to the rear of the ski to aid in getting up quickly, squared off edges at the underside for stability and either a flat or small tunnel design on the bottom also for stability. Use the appropriate size ski for your weight. The use of a ski rope with a long bridle will allow you to place the ski between the v wedge formed by the bridle. This will help keep your ski in line with the boat while the slack is being taken out of the rope with the boat in gear. Having a driver with a lot of experience if a big advantage. If you have been up on doubles this should help in getting up on a single. Bend your knees so that your front leg is at about a 90 degree angle and lean back slightly. When you are ready with your ski in line with the boat and the boat in gear have the driver to give it throttle. How much throttle depends on many things, the size of the boat, power of the motor, how much you weigh etc. Basically as much throttle as can be applied without pulling the handle out of your hands. As soon as the boat starts to pull start leaning back and pushing down on the ski. You will need to lean back much more on a single ski than on doubles. If your weight is too far forward the front of the ski will have more contact and you will lose control of the ski. It is almost impossible to lean too far back so don't be afraid the ski will come out from under you. If you know someone with a boom that sticks out from the side of the boat this will aid greatly in the amount of time it takes to learn to get up on the ski. As for how to make those wild cuts back and forth you can contact me through e-mail. I hope this has been helpful.

  2. Start on two skis, then drop one ski after you're comfortable putting all your weight on the slalom ski.  Then just slip your foot into the rear binding.

Tip:  To figure out which foot to put in the front binding of the slalom ski, just stand totally relaxed and have someone give you a light push from behind.  Whichever leg you naturally use to step out and keep your balance goes in front.  Good luck!  Slalom skiing is a blast!

  3. Always put your strongest leg in the front (usually the right leg).  When ready for take off, press your front foot forward, as you would press the brakes in your car.  This helps to get you up out of the water.  I personally think that slalom skiing is easier than skiing with two skis, but that's me.  Your front foot will be the one you use to make turns, keep your balance, etc.

  4. There are a very few simple steps to getting up on a slalom ski. First get in the ski and rest it against the rope to help with balance. Next you should keep alot of it out of the water. Finally when the boat starts, close your eyes and mouth and be ready to have your nose cleaned out. When you are up just cut back and forth and make sure that yu have a cross fin on the back of the ski.
