Question:

How do you slow down a horse?

I have just been riding this new horse i have ridden him b4 but i change horse a fair bit he has a bouncy jump but a nice canter BUT after a few circles in canter he will speed up a bit then when we go large he will go really fast at the straights how do i slow him down i sit deep but the saddle is really hard a bit like a dressage saddle and it hurts theni get scared and pull him then realese how do u do proper half halts or do you have any other ideas he well schooled and is around 14yo HELP!!

  1. umm when i ride i just pull on the reigns and the horse stops or slows down for me... different for every horse i guess


  2. All you have to do is say whooooooooaaaaaaaaaaa Nelly. That should work.

  3. Just pull back on the reins to slow down. For the horses I ride, if pulling back on the reins doesn't work, I try and sit further back in the saddle. I know it sounds a little weird but it works for me.
