  1. A few tricks that might help you get the feel is to try these comments.

Note: Imagine a line around the ball like the equator, that is parallel to the ground. When you hit a ball below this line people say, "you're hitting below the center or middle of the ball".

    1) Beginners often hit the volleyball below center because they feel they need to hit it upwards to get it over the net. Now look at your hand. See that little space at the bottom of the middle finger and the first big crease in your hand? Try to strike the middle of the ball with that space.

Try hitting the ball closer to the middle and this will make it easier to put a spin on the ball.

    2) Don't slap the ball. There is something called impulse in physics which is defined as the time of force on an object. If you slap a ball your hand stays in contact with the ball for a short period of time. If you follow through, your hands remain on the ball for just a little bit longer, and you can put more spin on the ball.

Follow through when you spike a volleyball.

    3) A great way to get the feel of snapping your wrist or putting a top spin on a ball is to try this:

Throw the ball about six to ten feet in the air. As the ball drops it will gain some speed. Now when you spike the ball and make contact, it will tend to spin forward. Throw the ball even higher and it gets even easier to put a top spin on the ball. Just make sure you hit the ball in the middle. Hitting the ball below the middle will stop the spin.

  2. Snap your wrist when you make contact with the ball it will give the ball top spin making it go down faster.

Just like in basketball, when you shoot you naturally snap your wrist (try it).

Snap as you swing in one movement, at the highest point. *Make sure you make contact with your whole hand, fingers spread.

    Nice!

  3. Snapping your wrist is just quickly moving your hand so the part of your hand that is showing is the top.

  4. because you will sprang your wrists

  5. Snapping the wrist is the movement of your hand 180 degrees or less, where the pivot point is your wrist. For example, if you held out your hand to tell someone to stop (palm faced towards the other person), snapping the wrist would require you to move your hand downwards (palm faced towards yourself). Now, at the time of impact with the volleyball, your coach is telling you to make this motion. It doesn't have to be 180 degrees and the timing of this act is quite difficult. But once you have mastered this movement, you will be able to add power and spin to your serve or spike. Hope this helps.

  6. hmm i play volleyball but when i serve my coach never tells me to snap my wrist she just tells me to follow through

  7. I think your biggest help would be to keep the ball in front of you instead of over your head.  (especially when spiking)

When the ball is about an arms length away it forces you to snap your wrist.

  8. For me serving against a wall overhanded while simply keeping a focus on snapping the wrist was the best method to improvement.

  9. You flip your wrist downward to push the ball down, instead of straight out. Practice with a tennis ball. Hold a tennis ball in your hand, do your approach at the net, jump, reach up like you are hitting, and throw the tennis ball down HARD on the other side. You'll have to flick your wrist for this.

    Hope that helped!
