I mean the dry powder before it is used in a recipe. I see recipes saying to soften the gelatin first

  1. Hot water.

  2. just sprinkle over about 1/4 cup of tap water, stir to combine.  After 5 min or so it will "bloom", having absorbed the water, and you can stir it into your recipe.

  3. Powdered or the sheets?  Hot water in both cases.  When all else fails, read the directions on the box.

  4. dip it in hot water.  and I mean hot...  just set the bowl down in the hot water and wait for it to come loose from the pan.  If you need to reset it, pour it in a microwave safe bowl and melt it totally in the microwave then reform it.
