How do you solder a transistor on a circuit board? How do you know which pin to solder to? Answer pls...

  1. is it a bipolar transistor or a fet?

    bipolar will have three legs, base, collector, emitter

    fet can have 3 or 4, but since you said transistor....

    if you are replacing a transistor, just go pin for pin. if you are building a kit, the emitter has an arrow on the schematic, the base is the junction where the emitter and collector meet.

    solder with less than 35 watts, you do not need to overheat but use enough heat to completely melt the solder and it flows correctly. 60/40 rosin core is the normal solder.

    If this is a repair, clean the solder holes with a solder sucker and then solder wick. I like to clean the board with acetone on a q-tip.
