  1. reza has given you the correct answer.

Showing you how she got this answer is clumsy, since it requires old-

fashioned long division, but I'll give it a try.

You are dividing x^2-x-2 into 3x^4-x^3-8x^2-1. Write it this way:

    ..........._________________

    x^2-x-2.| 3x^4-x^3-8x^2+0x-1

x^2, from the x^2-x-2 term, goes into 3x^4 term

    3x^2 times. We get

    ..............3x^2

    ..............________________

x^2-x-2| 3x^4-x^3-8x^2+0x-1  (The 3x^2 is supposed to squat down on

    top of the division sign)

Now multiply x^2 -x-2 by 3x^2, and enter yoyr result under the

3x^4-x^3-8x^2+0x-1 term. At this point, note that your original

3x^4-x^3-8x^2-1 term contained no x term. I've introduced +0x, so

that ALL x terms appear, in descending order. You will see why in a

    minute.

You should now  have something like this:

    .................3x^2

    ................__________________

    ..x^2-x-2| 3x^4-x^3  -8x^2+0x-1

    ..............3x^4-3x^3-6x^2

    ..............___________________Subtr...

    .....................2x^3-2x^2 +0x-1

Repeat the process.x^2 goes into 2x^3 2x times, and you get

    ..............3x^2+2x

    ............._____________________

    ..x^2-x-2| 3x^4-x^3-8x^2+0x-1

    ..............3x^4-3x^3-6x^2

    .............__________________Subtrac...

    ..............2x^3-2x^2+0x-1

    ..............2x^3-2x^2-4x

    ............___________________Subtrac...

    ............................4x-1

And that,s as far as you can take it. Hope this explains how the

    division was done.

    I'm going for coffee! Cheers

How are you making out with the stupid washing machine?

    x^2-x-2|

  2. take the power to each term like 3^4 X^4 - X^3-8^2 X^2 just break down each term into a coefficient and a variable then sove

  3. 3x^4-x^3-8x^2-1=(x^2-x-2)(3x^2+2x) + R

R is the reminder and is equal to 4x-1
