  1. Since there are absolute values, there will always be two answers. One is negative and one is positive, so view these as two equations:

    A) - ( x - 8 ) = 3    and    (x - 8) = 3

    B) - ( x + 4 ) &lt; 2   and    (x + 4) &lt; 2

    and just solve them as you would any other algebra equation!
