  1. 98-T = 10 a

    T-49 = 5a

    add equations to eliminate T:

    49 = 15 a

    a=3.3

    T-49=5x3.3 or T=65.5

  2. use substition and isolate one variable

    T-49=5a

    T=5a+49

    substitute into the other equation

    98 -(5a+49)=10a

    simplify this to...

    49-5a=10a

    49=15a

    divide by 15 on both sides in order to isolate a

    3.2666=a

    plug that back into the second equation

    T-49=5(3.26666)

    T-49=16.33333

    T=65.3333...
