How do you speed up a dvd burner?

i have a dvd burner that used to read and write things at amazing speeds..but now it takes like 10 hours to burn something and even longer to read sumthing..any help on how to make it faster

On your software, there should be an option, like a pull down menu, that allows you to choose a faster speed. Otherwise, if it's the encoding (most likely) which is the problem, it's because something running on the computer is using up all of your resources. You have way to many programs running, or some processes in the background that are using all of your RAM. Try cleaning that up, or erasing your hard drive and starting over.
