My German isn't the greatest, and I would like to have some German engraved into my fiance's wedding ring. (My love is forever yours) The only thing I need help with is the word 'yours'. I searched online and some have just 'ihr' and others have it spelled 'ihre'. Which is the 'right' or more common way? Thanks!

  1. Definitely DO NOT go with "ihre" because with a small "i" that means "hers" or "theirs"!

With a capital "I" it is "yours" but in a formal/polite way, very odd for referring to your fiance (like calling him Mr. Smith or even Sir, instead of John). "Deine" is the normal way to refer to your fiance's love, you can capitalize it if you like but it's not necessary.

    Meine Liebe ist immer deine.

  2. "Meine Liebe gehört ewig Dir"

  3. Meine Liebe gehört Dir für immer  .... my love is yours forever

Sometimes you can't translate a sentence word for word....or it will be lost in translation.

Dir,  Dein or Deine is correct

Ihr = ihr is incorrect, because it's informal.

How about: Ich werde Dich ewig lieben... I will love you forever.

  4. Ihr

Meine Liebe ist für immer Ihre

  5. Here, I asked the question for you on another site that is all about languages. Here is the link, they have some good advice about how to make it sound poetic and such.

Good luck with your wedding and such :)

  6. besides Layman all answers (i'm sorry i have to say so..) are bad....(Elwood touches also close..is better than the rest!)

My love is forever yours is quite a long sentence in german ..

Meine Liebe gehört auf ewig dir...

  7. You'd probably want 'deine'...it's not as formal as 'ihr.'

The sentence could be, "Meine Liebe ist für immer deine."

  8. well, in german it changes, depending on sentence structure.

i'd go with what the people above me said-deine. use their sentences, too.

  9. Meine Liebe ist auf ewig dein

  10. I would translate it like this:

Meine Liebe gehört Dir immer (My love belongs to you always)

  11. Deine.

  12. 1. a) sg dein, der (die, das) Dein(ig)e, die Dein(ig)en, b)

    2. a) die Dein(ig)en (Euren, Ihren), b) das Dein(ig)e, deine Habe

    3. Ihr Schreiben

    4. euer

    5. dein

    My love is forever yours=

    meine Liebe ist ewig Ihr

  13. Wow, lots of conflicting answers here.

The correct spelling in this case is Ihre, with the -e.  This is because it is an adjective referring to Liebe (love), which is feminine.  Adjective endings depend on the gender of the noun, which is why you've found different spellings.  You have the choice of using Ihr or dein, depending on how formal you want to be.  Ihr is always capitalized, but dein is not.

    Meine Liebe ist immer deine.

    or

    Meine Liebe ist immer Ihre.
