How do you split a movie that you have on your computer into 2 so you can put on 2 dvd+r's?

I have home movies that are longer than the 1hour 20 minute dvd

+r disks that i bought and I was wonder how i spit them... is there a free progam? thanks.

  1. There is a lot of software around that will do this, but most of it is not free.

    You basically have two options: split the movie onto 2 disks, or compress the movie so it fits onto a single disk.  Sometimes the second option is the best; if the uncompressed movie will fit 90% onto a disk, then the slight compression used to squeeze the whole thing onto a single disk won't be noticeable.

    I recommend you have a look at DVD Fab, which will allow splitting a movie between 2 disks, and DVD Shrink, which will compress a movie.  They are both free, and available from DOOM9, a video forum/guide website.
