For example, if Row 2 starts midway down page 1 and so is split over two pages, is there any way to insert a break so it Row 2 starts on page 2 (so it only occupies one page).

  1. I don't know of any way to insert a break, but you can specify that any or all rows not be split across pages.  Here's how in all recent versions of Word:

    1. Select the row(s) you don't want to be split across pages.

    2. Right-click and select Table Properties.

    3. Click the Rows tab.

    4. Deselect the Allow Rows To Break Across Tables checkbox.

    5. Click OK.

    Hope that helps.
