How do you spot a practice golf ball?

I know one way and that's if it says PRACTICE.

Though I was also wondering if the P with a circle around it means it's a practice ball too? I think it does. Though I want to make sure!

Then also, does a yellow golf ball mean it's a practice ball or is it just for people like me who have a hard time still finding our golf ball? My father said it might be for people who play in the winter that might land in snow. Is that correct?

Thank-you in advance for answering my questions to the best of your abilites.

  1. Usually they are yellow, sometimes have a large black stripe on them, and pretty beat up as well.

  2. Practice balls are marked in several ways. Those which are seconds directly from the factories will be marked with the stripe and word " Practice". Other range balls will  be yellow. also with a stripe of black. Still others are just yellow balls. Finally, you have the regular playing brands which have been retrieved from ponds or the woods that will be striped either red or blue to denote practice balls. Then the "Snow Bunnies" who insist in playing in the snow use balls which are painted red.

  3. Chances are, unless you're a really true golfer, you won't be playing in the snow. More often than not, at least one hole is near the driving range, and ranges usually use yellow balls.
