How do you start a 1970 citroen ds 21?

I inherited this car and my dad and I need help figuring out how to start it.

  1. Assuming it is a Citromatic the starter is engaged using the shift selector. Place it in the neutral position, between first and second positions, and push the selector to the left. If the starter doesn't engage you might have other issues. Other Qs?


  2. The previous answer is essentially correct, but don't forget to turn the key all the way to right (as far as it will go), then engage the starter using the shift lever.  When you depress the "mushroom-style" brake pedal, the idle speed will (should) decrease.  Releasing it has the opposite effect.
