My wife is pregnant and they say it will cost £800 a month for daycare. We have a massive garden and are thinking of starting a daycare center. Where do you start what are the normal charges and how many children can you have per person????etc

  1. you'll need to get certified, get your child development degree!

  2. hi Im currently working as a registered childminder in the uk,First of all you and ur wife will have to apply for registration thru ofsted, attend a re registration briefing , where they will inform u on all the procedures ect, then u will both have to attend a icp (introduction to childminding practice) course, which is one evening a week and lasts for 7 weeks , this is free in my area, but does vary across the country.

Either that or just one of u could become registerd and the other one could become an assistant.

The ammount of children u can care for varies according to the space u have available and any children u have of ur own.

the normal ratio's for one childminder

    1 child under 1

    3 children under 5

    6 children under 8

this includes any chldren of ur own,( alsoYou will ave to apply for planning permission isf u are having more then 4 children)

The fees u can charge also change due to the area u live in but i charge £ 30 per child per day which is £150 per week.

Hope i am of help xx

      hoper this helps x*x

  3. As far as where to start, every state has a little difference in codes that you must follow.. Start by looking around the house while on your knees, see anything that could be considered dangerous? Get some outlet covers, child latches for cabinets, doorknob covers (to prevent them from going in any unwanted areas), child gates at bottom and top of stairs, smoke alarms in any room children will occupy, fire escape plan(drawn out) with atleast 2 exits from any area, if you have a pool (above or inground) you may need a door alarm at the rear door. As far as how many kids... most of the time depends on square footage of home, if you have an average size home you could probably keep the maximum which is about 8 kids, which would include the ability to keep 2 infants (1 being your own) and 6 toddler and up, but please, start off slow, take on about 3-4 kids toddler or above and grow from there (hint: keep thier minds busy). as far as outside toys... just the basics, swingset, sandbox, a couple of ride on toys. if you have a fenced in yard... even better! The nominal charges vary, infants, of course, are the most expensive at about $165-$195 USD per week down to about $65 USD for school age kids per week, do some homework, call some local home daycare centers and get some price quotes around your area! Good Luck, and congrats!

  4. first you need to get a certificate and after that you could star your own day care facility or you could work with the state where you live they give you the children that you will take care of and in my state they paid 150 weekly for each child

  5. Social Services offers training and information on daycare.  There are certain rules and regulations you need to know before you even open up a day care.  Sounds like you have a beautiful setting for a daycare center.

  6. Legally you can't just open a daycare business at home, but many do of course.

The right way is to have a trained member of staff or get your wife qualified.  Once qualified you can be added to the list and people look at the list when choosing a daycare.  You will have overheads, insurance, wear and tear of your things etc.

Instead of daycare, why not do a child minding service....
